Loren Slater
Student encouraged from an early age:
Written by: a proud mother.
Loren Slater has been a student of Fiona Gruen since before she even knew it. At the tender age of 2 years Loren would sit next to Fiona wrapped in horse blankets holding fruit sticks and assorted treats while I had lessons with Fiona, never realising that she was absorbing it all.
Loren has always been enthusiastic about horses. From the day I found her elbow deep playing in molasses I knew she was destined to be surrounded by horses and the wonderful people who ride them. I would often see Loren running around my paddock jumping over imaginary jumps and having a wonderful time with the other kids as their mums rode and exchanged ideas about child rearing and horses.
Loren is now 14 and is successfully competing her Anglo Arabian ‘Aspenview Firestorm’(Ash) at Show Jumping, Dressage and Eventing. Loren and Fiona still meet up on a regular basis where Loren absorbs Fiona’s skills and knowledge like a big sponge. Loren started riding Ash when he was 5 and has worked with him over the last three years reaching amazing success for such a young rider and horse. Fiona has encouraged Loren to compete in Open competitions where she has accomplished both personal bests and successful results. Loren is currently training to step up to Prenovice eventing and will be competiting at Harden in August.
